Pressure Sore and Causes

Depending on the position of the patient whose pressure sores cannot move (immobile), skin diseases begin to appear in these areas with bone protrusions, which are most exposed to compression, due to the pressure applied to the same area. Bed sores (pressure ulcers, pressure sores, decubitus) are injuries that develop on the skin and muscle as a result of regional tissue damage in the skin and subcutaneous tissues in the body due to tearing, friction, exposure to prolonged pressure or other factors.

It usually occurs in patients who have to lie still for a long time or who live dependent on the bed. As a result of the body staying in the same position for a long time, excessive pressure occurs in certain body points, this pressure disrupts the blood circulation and this causes tissue death and the formation of regional wounds.

Bed wounds are important for healthcare institutions all over the world, causing patients to suffer pain, stay in hospital for a long time for wound care and treatment, cause high costs for both the patient and the hospital, reduce patient satisfaction, It is an important problem with the potential to decrease patient satisfaction in treatments.
